I begin with the diary. I can want several things at once, lose sight of a question and find it again in another form. The dates hold that movement; they do not promise that each entry will improve upon the last.
The three maps that follow offer different ways into the same material. Time moves through the year. Knowledge lets me stay with a thread and inspect its changing substance. Story asks what I can presently bring into relation and argue. Its contents are still working.
If you follow Time, each diary entry gives enough context to continue. A thread can first appear as a trace, without a detour. When a longer reading opens, its link names the material you will enter. The thread marks where later understanding begins. You can return to the diary you left or choose to continue along the thread.
The diary sequence in this sample ends in August. This is a cut through the selected material, not the end of the project.
