Connected, but how?
Alex asks about people returning while a funeral is happening.
I have been talking about the building having a life beyond the funeral. That means different reasons for being here can occupy the site at the same time.
How can the programmes be connected without depending on one another?
I do not want to force one person through another person's journey. I also do not want to tell someone that, because they are here for a particular reason, they belong only in one part of the site.
Access, privacy, freedom. I can see these becoming competing demands.
There are at least two directions here. One is how people find their way and move between spaces. The other is how a space lets them sense what kind of place they are entering. I need to look at both.
I have researched the ritual building more closely than the other programmes. I cannot assume the quieter parts need less investigation simply because they have fewer technical requirements.
This is a question I need to draw through.
